Petitions the General Commanding to interfere in behalf of two negroes who are now lying in jail under an indictment by the Grand Jury for killing a mule, the property of one James B. Fairchild. The mule was young and vicious and the men were told by Fairchild to make it work or kill it, and they in company with one of Fairchilds sons succeeded in accomplishing the latter  They worked during 1867 but refused on account of Fairchilds cruelty to contract for the coming year, which was an offense sufficient to cause Fairchild & son (the one who helped kill the mule) to appear before the Grand Jury and under their testimony, the result is as above. The men have families who are dependent upon them for support and petitioner prays, in justice to humanity that steps be taken to release these men from the malicious persecution of Fairchild who in a most notorious scoundrel. Encloses a letter from the wife of one of the men praying that her husband be informed of her condition that he may come and care for her
