PRISON WRITINGS JOHNSON
She said, "Honey, that will be fine sport,
I'll wear my new suede sporting coat
And then we'll watch the horses run
And you and I will have great fun."

When in the Clubhouse and all set
I asked her, whom she'd like to bet?
She looked at me, wide opened eyes
Filled both with wonder and surprise.

She said, "Why love, I never bet
The ladies in my churchly set
A betting man won't recognize
Him, they may even ostracize."

"They say it is a mortal sin
It does not good what ere you win
And with all that I do agree
That kind of money sickens me."

I listened to this platitude
I never like to act up rude
And then I went my merry way
Each horse I bet on won that day.

And when they were back in their stalls
My pockets looked like two footballs
My wife gave me the sweetest smile
Said, "Hon, I knew it all the while."

"You are so nice and sweet and wise
That when you win, it's no surprise,
We've won our bets, there's no need stopping
So come, sweetheart, and let's go shopping."
