You saw from eagle's perch the degradation of the oppressed people of the world, You pierced the skin of American liberality to reveal the pus of racism and slow genocide against Black people, You towered above the men of the century yet you kneeled in the dust to pick up the cause of your people, You committed crimes against white America, unable to chop you down they structured an enormous wall to block you from sight, But walls do crack- I understand the mystery now, I have caught a glimpse of you, have fashioned arrows in your image, My children will know your greatness, the Sequoia shall never die- and I and others will fire or weapons to down the common foe. (Better to state this bitter existential fact Then feign the lie, aiming to please the foe, and fooling self.) By what act of mental shuffle, shuck and jive Can we accept our plight, and stoop and scrounge and scuffle, For mere survival? Must we abide this spiteful dooming of black destinies? No! this we say: While Caesar slays our people for his profit And for our right and proper protest would destroy us, We come to bury Caesar, not to praise him. 371
