Norfolk and Portsmouth 3 A Hospital Exists at Norfolk for those two cities, and the surrounding region-including the so called Government Farms and is ample in its accomodations for all proper Hospital cases. There were formerly two small ill provided Hospitals in these cities. The two were consolidated into a large one, greatly improved in accomodations, and comforts, [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] facilities for ventilation & neatness The Hospital like those at Eastville and Hampton is in excellent order, and in all respects comfortable and well provided. No of beds laid Nov 25th 1865 74 No of beds Occupied Nov 25th 1865 40 No of Nurses cooks &c 1865 4 No of Medical Officers Nov 25th 1865 1 During the early part of the present year three medical officers were engaged in the duty which is now done by a single one at the Station and done so fully as to ensure all pressing cases attention This is an Evidence of the improving [[strikethrough]] condition [[/strikethrough]] state of the Freedmen in sanitary condition, and in ability to sustain themselves At this Station a small Dispensary is [[strikethrough]] also [[/strikethrough]] in operation under the oversight of the medical Officer in charge of the Station, assisted
