in which the Medical Officers of the Bureau can not be reached

In a few of the counties of the State the Physicians attend indigent Freedmen, at present, without compensation, and without any future claims for any - the Bureau furnishing them with a moderate quantity of [[strikethrough]] the more conserv [[/strikethrough]] medicines to use among them.

Admittance to all Hospitals is carefully restricted to cases absolutely requiring Hospital care, - it being the policy - [[strikethrough]] as far as possible, [[/strikethrough]] to treat cases in quarters, so as to make the Hospitals, as far as possible, available for a wide region.

If means allowed, more Hospitals, and more Medical Officers, both, would be very useful. There are numbers of places where they should be placed if consistent.

With present means - providing with Medical care and Medicines, pressing necessities, has been the policy.
