Since arrangements were completed for commuting rations in Hospitals for Freedmen,- we have been able to improve, very essentially, the [[strikethrough]] the [[/strikethrough]] diet tables, and as a consequence, patients are, not only more comfortable - but periods of disability decreased in length - and the rate of mortality, also lessened.

Much assistance has been rendered to Freedmen, in various portions of the State where no officer of the Bureau was on duty, by Medical Officers attached to Military commands_

The mustering out of so large a number of these officers, and the abandoning of many Posts, occupied by commands,- will increase the wants of the Bureau for more Medical Officers.

The total number of Refugees & Freedmen treated under direction of the Bureau is about - 4300 -
The number under treatment Nov 25th about, 700
Total number of deaths - about - 280.
