At Taylor Farm several attempts have been made by the Freedmen thereon to resist the Bureau Officers, but the parties were promptly arrested, and quiet restored. Those now remaining profess their readiness to leave, and I have extended the time given them, so that they may be enabled to build elsewhere. I am informed that Mr. Pepper has interferred again with these men,- that he has told them they need not leave, - and that the Bureau has no right to eject them. On one day last week a meeting was held on the farm - a petition was circulated and generally signed requesting the Bureau Officers to consult with the aforesaid Pepper, in the performance of their duties. It was expected that Mr. Pepper would be there to address the people, but he did not appear, and so saved himself from a term at Hard Labor Prison_
