eagerness to receive all the educational advantages possible.  Requests have been made that two more schools may be established, but in the absence of a military force in those places, I can not entertain it as the people show a very decided avertion to the establishment of "Colored Colledges".  The Teacher in Page County having been forceably taken to the Shenandoah River immersed and ordered to leave within a prescribed time on pain of death, also the Teacher in this place (Woodstock) received notices to the same effect, just before my arrival, and about the same time as a Freedman had to leave New Market. Discharged Union Soldiers (Refugees) have been fired at whilst peaceably walking upon the public highways. 

I am convinced that the presence of U.S. Forces will eventually eradicate this feeling when the policy of the Government in establishing a Bureau for the relief of the Freedmen without means of subsistence, Refugees without friends, is fully understood and appreciated.
