The feeling between whites and colored has not abated materially as is shown by the whites burning the building owned and occupied by the colored as a church and school house on the evening of the 9th inst. - and although all efforts have been made to ferret out and to bring to punishment the perpetrator of this outrage such efforts have, as yet, been unsuccessfull. I am confident there are but many few whites that desire that the colored should enjoy the privileges of religious worship or to receive an education, particular the latter. The prejudices of the whites against educating the colored man always very strong and they do not easily [[?]] now that the situation is changed. They will not acknowledge this but is even be seen and its effect every day. There is no schools in the Co. now but the colored are anxious to put-up another house that the schools and meetings may be continued.
There is work enough in the County for all, and the Freedmen are generally availing themselves of it by working for wages or renting land on thereon.
I am very Respectfully
