and they were of but little importance.  The several complaints were settled to the mutual satisfaction of the parties concerned.
   The freedmen Schools in the sub. dist. have been progressing finely.  they are now havig a vacation for two weeks.
   Judge Hall of the Circuit Courts of Jefferson and Berkeley Counties, is a very radical loyalist, and a true friend of the freedmen, and there is but little doubt but that freedmen will recieve full justice in all their cases tried by the courts over which he presides.
   There are many very destitute white persons applying every day for rations and assistance.
   In Berkeley County Bureau Affairs are more favorable, the Civil authorities provide for all destitute freedmen that were residents before the war, excepting many old and helpless persons who are living with their former masters, were they all to be turned out I do not know whether or not they would be able to provide for them all.
   The citizens of Berkeley County generally are well disposed toward the freedmen, and many of the freedmen have told
