enforcing Law and Order and having justice done the Freedmen.
There are still some cases of outrage and oppression attempted against Freedmen, but they are becoming less frequent, and would perhaps entirely cease were it not for said County Officers, (Beazley and Robinson) as above stated. I have not done yet much as to Schools cannot get any assistance. I have, however, by my own individual efforts obtained a House and have workmen now repairing it, for School purposes.
Most of the Freedmen have contracted and are doing well, very well. Most of the good citizens treat them fairly and pay them a reasonable compensation for their labor and treat them humanely, and kindly. I have not as yet witnessed the operation of Circular No 10, Bureau of R.F. and A.L. Head Quarters, Asst. Comr., State of Va., Richmond, Va., March 12' 1866. The Citizens, as a general thing, appear now, to be a law-abiding and law-loving community and are in favor of peace and quiet.
