I have the honor to make the following report in compliance with circular No. 6. dated Hd. Qrs. Asst Comm. Richmond Va Jany 29th. 1866.

The Freedmen in this sub District generally are working satisfactorily to their employers, judging by my own observations and the few complaints made by the latter, although there seems a disposition to expect more diligence on the part of the Freedmen than was required while they were in a state of slavery

There is a large member of dependent Freedmen in this county including old and infirm and women and children. Many of the husbands and fathers of the latter class have left during the war. Most of these dependents have been supported during the winter by their former owners, who are now making almost daily enquiries as to the future disposition of such dependents. They were ordered not to turn them off during the winter. but as spring has now arrived they are anxious to be rid of persons
