it will be a hard matter to keep up the freedmens School. Buildings are scarce, and no one wold rent me a house or room for that purpose at this place and I expect it is the same all over this County.
Not withstanding two Cases were tried befor freedmens Court in which the offending parties (all were freedmen) were conficted to a smal fines or cost, the colored people bears himself well, them are working for their Existance. Keep well to the bargains made, if written or not, and their employers are satisfied. I have not issued anything of subsistance to freedmen, in the month of March, and do not expect to issue any during the next month April. Some Clothing would do very well if I could get them, as some old destitute freedmen need them badly.
Eight Contracts were made under my Supervision, many Copies taken of Contracts made outside two cases were tried befor the freedmens Court, and a good many triveling Cases early settled by a good advise or a warning given by letter.
While Medl Aid according to the regulation of this Bureau, is unpractical and insufficient, for the reason this Sub Dist. being to far of from RR Conection, the sik hat to suffer, befor such Med Aid from Gordonsville would reach him the used Medicine, if possible are to be repaid to the Civil Surgeon of this County, who willingly will draw in their labor by attending freedmen. A request as such from Med Dr
