I advised them to go to a magistrate and swear the peace on them. the white man was afraid & said the magistrates were as bad as the rest. he has left the County & I cannot learn where he has gone. the negro went back. the parties before spoken of, came and tore  down his house, and only spared the white man's. at the tearful entreaties of his wife, and her old mother, but informed them, that they would have to leave. The woman came to see me but I was in the upper part of the Co. on business & did not see her. This occurred in the lower part of the Co twenty miles from here. The freedman I sent to a magistrate near the scene of action, with an earnest request that he would [[strikethrough]] go [[/strikethrough]] do his utmost to uphold the dignity and majesty of the laws. I learn that the arrest of about thirty of them has been ordered.
