Major
In compliance with Cir No 6 C S Hd Qrs Asst Com Va, Richmond Va Jany
29th 1866. I have the honor to make the following report. The Freedmen of this Sub District are working very well indeed. I have no complaints
about their not working, but on the contrary persons have expressed their surprise, at their doing so
well. The Corn crop will be very heavy I am told by well informed citizens, that there never was a
larger crop of Corn planted than as now being put in. Almost every Farmer is straining to get as much in as possible. The wheat crop will not amount to anything. Fences are being built and the county gradually assumes a more pleasant aspect.

I have been present at 3 Criminal Cases brought by Freedmen before Magistrates for examination. two of
them were discharged One of them I do not think the freedmen had any chance and it was a very unfair and unjust decision The Magistrate's not giving proper weight to the evidence of Freedmen.
I am Major Very Respectfully
