has been resumed under orders from Dist Hd Qrs that the collection of lawful taxes from the freedmen should not be prevented by the Asst Supts of the Bureau. The levy in this County therefore being plainly legal under the strict letter of the Virginia State law, its collection has been assumed by the tax gatherers of the County.
Circular No. 11 of March 19th 1866 publishing the Va. State Law as amended in reference to marriages amongst the freedpeople & has been promulgated throughout the County as required in the Circular, and the registration of marriages among the freedmen required by the same has been commenced and will be carried through to completion during the coming month.
The Fence Law was neglected by the County Court at its April session, a measure which will be attended with about equal advantage and disadvantage to the interests of the freedmen, many of them having cattle and hogs which they would only keep by allowing them to run at large in the commons, to which class it will be beneficial, and many having crops under cultivation upon unfenced land, to which class, of course, it will be injurious. 
A school for colored children has been established in the County by a white lady belonging to the County and already numbers
