and was a candidate for reelection on the 24th inst but was badly defeated by his opponent John Miller; a man that was fined by the Freedmens Court last Spring in this place for Striking a Freedmen without cause or provocation. Since the adjournment of the Freedmens Court, I have been trying to bring several cases of outrages but as yet have not succeeded. The Justice as a rule has one day in each month to hear cases in their precinct. This is to slow for Freedmen as in some cases Freedmen who have worked all spring and got the crop planted have been violently driven from their places of labor without pay or a [[mean?]] of support.

I have to cases of that kind to day & [[strikethrough]] shall [[/strikethrough]] will try and bring them before some of the Justices of the County immediately. I have had no civil case as yet tried in this County before any Justice as yet.
