There are no schools in this Sub. Dist. Many are anxious for such advantages and seem quite eager to improve them if given.

The number of rations issued to freed will have to be increased the coming month from the fact, that many freedmen supposing themselves able by their labor to support themselves and children, with an aged parent or two entirely unable to work, until the growing crops should come into maturity or market, now find that they have miscalculated their means and ability, and are in real want.
