The Freedmens school at this place is in a very prosperous Condition under the superior mangement of Miss S. F. Wood who has now two Assistant Teachers. for information in reference to the average attendance I refer you to Miss Ws report herewith enclosed. Miss W has three sessions daily the AM session being devoted to reading writing & Arithmetic & afternoon session for girls who are taught sewing &c

The evening session is generally very large & is devoted to reading & writing and is for those children & young men & women who are in service and cannot attend at any other time. I accompany the teachers in the evening and teach the young men they all mannifest the deepest interest and are progressing very rapidly in their studies.

The great trouble to be contended with is the want of a more suitable and sizeable building in which to more successfully prosecute this great work in which the freedmen and all truly loyal people are so much interested

I can see however. that great good has been thus far accomplished notwithstanding the serious difficulties that have from time to time interrupted the progress of the school. There has not however of late been any interference with the school and at this time it is in successful & encouraging condition.
