school yesterday and was very agreeably surprised to see the progress that had been made since my last visit in April.
The school is well organized a classified and the scholars look cleanly and are remarkably well disciplined. The system adopted by Miss Ward is the same as that of all well regulated N.England Schools. 
I noticed that good order was observed and that the children were very industrious and obedient. I can easily see the beneficial effect upon the entire colored population here that has been produced by the establishment of this school. The objections that were raised at first by the whites in reference to the children attending school are not so prominent now. The school is gradually living down the prejudices entertained against it by the whites who seem to take it for granted that it is now a "fixture of the place"-
I have made arrangements with some educated colored men one of them living near Salem Va in this County, and also another at or near New Baltimore for the establishment of schools in these localities the progress of which will be reported in my next monthly report.
Upon the whole I am happy to say that the affairs of the Bureau in my Sub Dist are in very prosperous condition and every effort in my power shall be made for the continuation of the same during the time it shall be the pleasure of my government to retain me in charge of this County -
