There is quite an effort being made to establish a school at Berryville Clark County and in the course of the next month I think will be successfull the Freedmen there are very desirous of having one and are living in hopes that they will soon see their children enjoying that blessing

I have had occasion to attend several trials before the Civil authorities between the Whites and Freedmen during the past month and cannot say but that Justice has been done to all concerned still I think there is a prejudice existing in cases where the Freedmen is complainant against white citizens even among that class of citizens who are known as good & Loyal that is characteristic of the south it seems as though they were very much in want of Moral Courage they do not like to carry out the law in regard to the rights of the Freedman for fear of the opinion of the Neighbors (I had a case come to me the other day I think the 22nd where a Freedman could not et a warrant issued for the arrest of
