services could be obtained. But one instance has, as yet, occurred where the Freedmen has appeared before the "Civil Courts", and, the sentiments expressed there clearly indicated the future fate of the "Freedman" when the recipient of "Virginia Justice"; a more complete farce, on justice, equity, and law, was never enacted. A full and implicit report of this trial (so called), was forwarded May 26th 1866, its statements are indisputable and if necessary can be substantiated by sworn evidence.

I would most respectfully call your attention to my report forwarded May 24th 1866, in relation to the

"Burning of the Freedmens School."

which occured in this county not long since this is but another practical evidence of the friendliness of the whites towards the Freedmen. Actions petty in their character are occuring daily all to the same purport, and, on the other hand I have no incident, nor am I able to hear of one which can throw any light upon the darkness of the scene.

The density of the population of these two "Freedmen's" villages cannot but be productive of immorality and
