Mar. with open arms" - &c. &c. - I was compelled to be present in my official Capacity, and listen to his abuse without right of reply or personal redress - [[?]] was also made that the Freedmens Bureau was suspended and the adjournment of the Freedmens Court, was considered confirmatory of this - It is impossible in a brief report to fully recount the changed feelings upon the white citizens - Several cases of abuse of Freedmen have come to my notice since the adjournment of the Court - but I am powerless to apply a remedy - 

The freedmen have been and are laboring faithfully - Learning that I may possibly soon leave the Co., they visit the office in large numbers earnestly imploring that either myself or some U.S. Officer will remain here to protect their interests - Unless the Freedmans Court is re-established before the crop auctioned
