of Overseeers of the Poor for P. Anne Co in reference to their assuming charge of the county poor. Suitable buildings will be erected on the county Poor Farm as soon as practicable and the board will thence forward take entire charge of the colored paupers belonging to Princess Anne Co.
I cannot report any improvement in the feeling of citizens as regards loyalty to the U.S. government and toleration of northern settlers among them. The few expressions of loyalty are guarded by as many "ifs" and "buts" that it is difficult to believe it more than lip fealty. If the refusal to associate was confined to myself and family I might readily attribute it to the unpopular position I have held in the county, but I find others of good social standing at the North and in no way connected with the Government, as isolated as myself, and no secret is made of the fact that they hope by so doing to drive all Northern men away.
I have the honor further to report that I was summoned as a witness before the circuit court held in this county on the 25th Inst. The case Cornick v. Bell is an action to recover sent from Ian 1863 to Dec 31 1865 under a lease made prior to the evacuation of Norfolk by the Rebels. The plaintiff enlisted in and left with the Rebel army and a Miss Cornick also interested, was for persistent blockade running and mail carrying.
