sent South through our lines by order of the general commanding the Dept. The Treasury Agent seized the rent of the farm in kind, one year and the year following rent was collected in the same manner by the Bureau R. F. & A.L. The Dept. made as one plea in his answer to the complaint that he had already paid the rent for two (2) years to the US. government under duress, but the Judge (Baker) overruled the plea on the expressed ground that "Comick should not suffer for being absent doing his duty" The best the Dept. could do by his council was to postpone the case to September term, but he informed me himself he is satisfied the decision will be adverse to him and he is anxious to remove the rent to some U.S. County -} Other similar suits have been instituted and loyal men will need government countenance or they will be legally crushed-

Agricultural prospects continue favorable as a whole; though corn and other crops have suffered from parching winds by day and cold nights, it is not too late for general warm weather to repair the injury which is partial- It is sincerely to be hoped that we may be blessed with "plenty" which may do much to reestablish "peace"

Respectfully submitted
