Sir,
I have the honor to submit the following report in regard to Freedmen's affairs in Mecklenburg Co. Va. In obedience to orders rec'd from Capt Barnes Supt &c, June 6th, to take charge of Mecklenburg Co, in addition to this Co. I started on the morning of the 7th to do so.

At Christiansville I met a freedman who had been stabbed in the arm and in both shoulders, he looked very weak and feeble. He had some dispute with a man about his work, where the man said you have disputed my word once before and commenced choaking him, [[strikethrough]] when [[/strikethrough]]
