fears, yet am not prepared to say they are entirely groundless. In the spirit of mischief, if from no worse motive, they may possibly do some violence to the schools, toward which it is believed they entertain a strong animosity.
Of the state of feeling existing between the citizens and freedmen in this country, I am unable to speak with possitiveness, but am of the opinion, that a degree of distrust is entertained by both classes, arising from their new relations to each other, which, as far as I can judge, neither fully comprehends.
By the time another report is due, I trust I shall be able to impart more satisfactory information.
