with their employers. In some cases the Freedmen have rented lands and are now busily employed in cultivating them. In most cases however they prefer to be employed by the month.
There is but little attention paid to the education of the Freedmen by the white citizens. There is however a school established in this place by the Freedmen themselves, and a colored man employed to teach the school.
The Overseers of the poor have not yet made any provisions for the destitute Freedmen. The Freedmen themselves have organised a relief society and do all they can to give relief to the aged and infirm.
I am of the opinion that the Freedmen in my Sub District are a self supporting class of people.
