General,
I have the honor to report that the feeling existing between the White People and Freedmen is not so good as it was formerly I ascribe the changes to the bad influences exercised by the secessionists, who are growing very bold in their language and acting. An Election for the Office of Sheriff was held in Patrick Co. a few weeks ago, in which the secession or Union was made the issue, and the Unionists elected their candidate by a very small majority.

I am General
Very Respectfully
Your Ob'dt. Srvt
