is worth a dozen dutchmen" etc" I am satisfied that these people can not get along [[strikethrough]] well [[/strikethrough]] with any class of laborers so well as with the blacks- The Freedmen are at present very industriously engaged and seem to be very well satisfied with the treatment received from their former masters. I apprehend no serious difficulties will occur until the termination of the present year- I think perhaps in the settlement & division of the crops &c there will be some dissention between the farmers & the freedmen.

The farmers as a general thing have a full supply of labor at present. 

No contracts have been made during the month.- the affairs of the county are in a very quiet settled condition no complaints of ill treatment or injustice have been reported. and very little sickness exists among the [[strikethrough]] m [[/strikethrough]] freed people- the jail contains but 2 colored people (2 boys) committed for stealing hogs they owned up to the theft & were remanded for trial next Circuit Court-

I have noticed that in all cases where the civil authorities have acted [[strikethrough]] upon [[/strikethrough]] when colored persons have been brought before them- for any offense- that they seem to act justly (and do in fact act so)- but I am inclined to think more from a matter of Policy then from a
