Enquiries are made as to the condition of the Applicants, prior to furnishing them with Rations.

The withdrawal of the Freedmens Court has had a depressing influence on the Freedmen, through its functions they could obtain, (if justly entitled) the Small sums owing them by the White people. Now the Court is suspended they prefer in many instances sooner to lose the small amounts of their hard earned wages, than bring the case before the Civil Authorities.
