some mischief making white man had been the cause of all the trouble.

I have talked with several of the Freedmen and given them advice in regards to their future welfare and you would be surprised Genl. to see the beneficial effect it has had among them. The employers of some of the Freedmen that I have talked to have come to me and told me how well their Freedmen were doing. I think before another month passes that neither the Whites or freedmen will come to me with any complaint. 

I have been present at all the trials that have taken place this month and am pleased to say that justice is done the freedmen in the courts. A few days ago a case came off between one of the Constables of the Co. and a freedwoman. The case was tried before Mr. Taylor J.P. who decided against the Constable who had to pay the claim.

The whites (as a general thing) are well disposed toward the freedmen and seem to be anxious for them to prosper. And are in
