I have the honor to make the following report of the condition of Bureau affairs in the Sub district of Mathews & Gloucester Co. Va. for the month of June 1866.

The Freedpeople are generally working very well, particularly in those cases where land is worked on shares, the whites have no cause of complaints of want of diligence on the part of the Colored:

The terms of renting land usually are as follows:
Land, teams, food for teams, furnishing implements, furnished by the Planter, and the crop is equally divided after harvesting.

At the present time there is but one school in this Sub district, this is in Mathews Co. More schools are needed and the Freedmen are anxious to have schools established, with efficient teachers. Many of the whites are
