My name is Daniel Mathews I live in Hinds County Miss. Am working a portion of Mr. L. M. Rogers Plantation this year 1867, on or about the 22d day of Nov 1867, I borrowed of Jerry Nichols a Freedman working on Mr Rogers, place, one bale of cotton to pay for supplies for myself and family my cotton being in the seed, and not ready for market; on the 28th Nov 1867, I returned to Jerry Nichols the amt of Cotton in the seed, to make the 450 lbs lint Cotton, in taking the cotton to the Gin Jerry Nichols was met by Mr Rogers and the Cotton attached as belonging to myself, who owe Mr Rogers for rent, Jerry Nichols owing Mr Rogers, nothing a full settlement having been previously made. Jerry Nichols has been wronged by attempting to accommodate me which I very much regret.
