Sir your favor of the 16th of Feby was received some time since and in order to furnish the information desired I have caused the persons in my county who are in destitute circumstances & who need assistance white & black, adults & children to be carefully assessed and find the number to be a fraction over fifteen hundred and any contributions by the "Southern Aaid Society" or from any other sources for the benefit of the suffering population of Leake County Miss will, I assure you be thankfully received by them as well as by your humble servant. Anything sent to my county for their benefit should be delivered to the order of the "Board of Police" in order to secure a just & equal division & distribution as that body knows who are the proper beneficiarys of the assistance sent there. Number of indigent persons in Leake County who need assistance.... 1503
