children of the Freedmen & several applications have been made to me for Books which I have been thus far able to comply with on application to the New England Freedmens Aid Society.

I have received a sufficient number of Books not only to supply the demands already referred to but also enough for the establishment of schools the ensuing Autumn in Upperville, Salem, New Baltimore and the Blackwell settlement (14) fourteen miles South of this place - at all of which places I hope to be able with the assistance of the religious societies (who favor it) to put in successful operation schools for these people. who are daily applying to me for the same.
