between whites & blacks, and this is owing to the good behavior of the Freedmen - The slightest, impudence, or anything that can be construed into insubordination is generally met by a "knock down argument."

I have a case of the latter, now pending before, the County Court, where gross injustice was done the Freedman; & I have directed him to sue in the higher Court for damages, which I think he will get.

Under all the circumstances, I consider the conditions of affairs hopeful;
