General

I have the honor to make the following consolidated report of affairs in general, pertaining to the Bureau of RF and AL State of Va for the 8th District for the month of July 1866.

The freedmen are generally at work receiving fair compensation for their Labour.  Some work for share of crops whilst others work for wages, they are engaged at all most all kinds of work some on the farms some on the rail road some at trades as mechanics &c.

They are trying to make themselves a self sustaining people and I am induced to believe they will succeed.  The Asst. Supts have commenced the register of marriages, which will be done very slowly by some of the Asst.
