Office Asst. Supt. Bureau R.F. and A.L.
Sub Dist. Madison and Greene Counties Va,
Madison C.H. Va August 31, 1866

Brevet Major W.R. Morse
Supt. 4th. Dist. Va.
Gordonsville Va.

Sir

I have the honor to report very little change in the condition of Bureau affairs in this Sub. Dist, since my last report. 4 good feeling exists generally between the Whites and Freedmen
Most of the former with whom I have come in contact express themselves much pleased with the manner in which the Freedmen have conducted themselves since they became free. The manner in which the latter have adhered to their contracts thus far is truly commendable as many of them contracted to work for the year upon very low terms, they say however they will stick to their agreements
