the Whites. There is great demand for the establishment of a school or schools in this Sub Dist for the Freedmen. They have submitted something for this purpose, but have not paid anything yet and I fear but very few of them will be able to pay anything from the fact that they do not save their wages. I endeavor by every argument to impress their minds with the importance of saving their money & using economy but with slow success.

Every worthy complaint by the freedmen against white parties that has been brought before the local magistrates has received attention, such as "assault & battery" &c. The people of this Sub Dist are in the main friendly to the Bureau and are more desirous for its continuance than otherwise, as they regard it a connecting link.

Very Respectfully
