Ministers of the Gospel and many good men advised and instructed them during their protracted meetings, and generally in all cases, reciprocal kindness is highly appreciated, and its results very beneficial to the happiness and prosperity of all.

During the present month the Circuit Court has been held in this county, Judge Sheffey presiding, and in all Cases the Judge guarded the criminal with the full protection of the law, and the Officers of the Court throughout, together with the Jurors, in every Case, manifested a magnanimous disposition to make the punishment as light as possible according to the law, and made great allowance for ignorance on the part of colored criminals. "The justness on the part of the Court toward the Freedmen, and the good practical advice given by the Judge, will have an excellent influence on all."

In all cases, were Freedmen have made for themselves a good character they have plenty of friends, and since my Official charge, I have made it an object to encourage others to emulate the good, and have used my influence with both classes to modify the extremes, with an aim of getting the differences of Races on a basis which must result in happiness and prosperity, to all people.
