Pursuant to Circ. No.6. C.S. Hd. Qrs. Asst. Com'r, State of Va., I have the honor to report the condition of affairs in this County.

The fall crop, in this section, may be deemed a failure, resulting in much suffering and great destitution amongst those who have depended upon their small returns from that source; and as the greater proportion of farming land has been worked by holders of single, half or quarter acre lots, the crop failure is more individually felt by each of the poor families, thus cultivating, or rather, attempting to cultivate.

One result of this deficiency in the crop return is shown in the extreme difficulty, and, as a whole, the
