obligations shown them, they return cheerfully to their labor.

Many are making their bargains for next year. The greater portion will be for wages, the system of working for part of the crop not proving satisfactory in many cases. Very few who have been "Croping on Shares" will according to present indications consent to do so again.

The crop of corn in this Country, has turned out much better than it was feared it would. That of tobacco is larger than any ever before raised in the County and it is now all houses.

There has been no applications for assistance on the part of the Freedmen during the present month, the Overseers of the Poor are as far as I can learn providing for all the destitutes.

Upon the whole the Bureau matters are moving on smoothly in this County.
