to be apprenticed to them but none have been apprenticed owing to the fact that the kin of the children invariably objected & were as a general thing desirous and able to take care of them themselves.

I have succeeded in inducing the Freedmen of Orange to complete their building which I had moved down from Gordonsville Va to Orange C.H. to be put up for church & school purposes.

They have got it nearly done now & I hope to have a good school established there by the middle of next month at farthest. 

I have succeeded in leasing a lot here sufficiently large to erect a building upon for the colored people of Culpeper & have asked permission to use the Govt building here for that purpose. 

The Freedmen School is in operation here now. A report of which is herewith enclosed. All of which is respectfully submitted.
