Respty returned- application was made for this property in the month of May, by a son of Mrs. McCandlish, and the following endorsement placed upon it by me, and the paper returned to Bvt Brig Genl B.C. Ludlow Comd'g Peninsula Dist.
The U.S. Govt has leased until the 31st Dec'r 1865 about 350 acres of this farm to negroes who have built sixteen or eighteen small houses and fenced a part of the ground: the balance of the land is used for pastorage, the house for a school and quarters for the teacher and one colored family, as this farm is the property of a widow lady who of course could take no part in the rebellion, I respectfully recommend that it be transferred to her together with all the personal property belonging to the estate as soon as it can be done without detriment to the interests of the parties who now
