(Sg'd) Chas Warren Lt Col &c &c Lt Varick's report agrees nearly with the complaint of Bryant except that Bryant was saucy to his (Lieuts) men while in the discharge of this duty &c &c. Richmond Va Aug 25 1865 Respectfully returned to Col Davis with statement of Lt Varick enclosed in regard to the ill treatment of a colored person by the name of Bryant at Rockets Aug 11, 1865. I have been unable to find Bryant (no such person being at the Olive House) or either of the witnesses mentioned in the endorsement of Lt Merrell and as the statement of Lt. Varick agrees substantially with the complaint I return the papers without further examination.
