restoration to her of the T.B. Farm and the accompanying letter of Lt. Col White I have to state that said farm was reported by me to the Treasury Department as abandoned in January last. that is was accordingly rented out by me as such in that month for the present year.
The seizure of said farm was made by the order of Lt Col White and by the military authorities in November 1864, and upon such seizure they seized 1/3 of the grain upon the premises and carried it away to Townsfield when it was sold on account of the then Negro Department.
A contract was also made by Col White with a Mr Hiscox √ selling to the latter all the oak timber thereon.
The farm was reported by me as abandoned because the owner thereof residing from choice within the rebel lines was presumptively disloyal and engaged in assisting the rebellion : and because also her managing agent being an officer in the rebel army and her tenant having died in 1864. the farm was actually abandoned in fact. The farm has never been reported for confiscation.
