This seems to be a reasonable and meritorious application and I would respectfully ask that the property be turned over to petitioner as it seems to be of little or no value to the Gov't further to occupy it.

Richmond Va Sept 7th 1865
Respectfully returned ot the Q:M: Gen'l U.S>A. ad the report that soon after the occupation of Norfolk in 1862, the ship yard in which this saw mill is located was taken possession of for Gov't purposes, being at the time abandoned, and it has till recently been so [[?]] the shop yard and saw mill being of no further service to the Qrs Ms Dept. It was turned over to the Bureau of Refugees Freedmen and Abandoned Lands in compliance with the provisions of Gen'l orders No 110 Current Series War Dept A.G.O.

The ship yard is owned by a Mr Archer and was by him leased to Mr Greene.

Both of these parties I am informed rendered all assistance in their power to the Rebel Gov't. and Mr Graves was prominent in sinking the obstructions in the James River at Drewreys Bluff
