Respectfully returned to Col O Brown Asst Com'r &c State of Va. with the following remarks
The building asked for was reserved in the hands of the Freedmen's Bureau especially because there was no other place on the Point, suitable for a school room and meetings. The four buildings asked for were build expressly for our Dept. The three given on the order of Gen'l ord are believed to be more than sufficient for the wants of the ordinance Dept. The school will commence it is expected next Monday, and I earnestly pray that the large number of colored families on and about the Point, having been allowed the free use of this place by all the com'd'g Gen'ls during the past four years. May not be deprived of a place to worship God. and educate there children, unless another suitable place is provided. I respectfully recommend that the old order be so modified as to include only the three buildings now given up. at least until another decent place can be provided. (Sgd) C.B.
