B. 584, Asks information concerning an Iron safe turned over to Maj Carney by Lt. Col. Kinsman Endorsed Fort Monroe Va Oct 2d 1865 Respectfully returned to Col O. Brown Asst Comr &c State of Va with the following statements. Maj Carney had a large am't of property stored at Fort Monroe & among it was an Iron safe. The storehouse was taken by the ordinance Dept and the property was taken to Norfolk Va, whether the safe was taken there or not, I do not know as the property was not under my control. (Sgd) C. B. Wilder Capt & AQM Richmond Va Oct 5th 1865 Respectfully returned to Capt Wilder AQM &c with the statement that the safe was not taken to Norfolk - and the request that Capt Wilder will please make enquiry and look it up if possible. (Sgd) O. Brown Col & Asst Com'r Rcd & Retd Oct 5th 1865 E. B. Frost Supt Schools 4th Dist Gordonsville Va Sept 2d 1865 asks for Lumber Nails Window Sashes &c &c to repair ("Colored") church to be used as school House at Fredericksburg Va. Endorsed Richmond Va Oct 5th 1865 Respectfully referred to Capt Crandon Inpt &c, who will furnish the lumber if it belongs to the Bureau_ He will also inform Mr Frost that our only sources of income being Government lands, and these lands having been restored, will prevent our furnishing the other articles however much we may desire to do so. The applicant files herewith certificate that he does not come under the exceptions in President Proclamation. In his application fo his property No. 90. Main. St. he sent Amnesty oath, Proof of title, and certificate that property had not been libelled_ These papers are still on file in the Asst Com'rs office in Richmond (Sgd) Charles, E. Johnston Asst Supt Norfolk Va Oct 2d 1865 respectfully forwarded to Col. O. Brown A.C. of Va and attention invited to endorsement of Mr C, E, Johnston. (Sgd) A. S. Flagg Capt & AQM &c Richmond Va Oct 5th 1865 Respectfully returned. The Amnesty oath, proof of title, & that the property has not been confiscated are not on file in this office. They do not appear to have been sent here. By order of Col O. Brown (Sgd) H. B. Scott Ins Gen'l Rcd Oct 4th & Retd Oct 5th 1865 O. Brown Col & Asst Com'r Richmond Va Sept 18th 1865 Cites the case of John Richardson and Jordon Morris (colored) in relation to the Will of Lucy. T. Boles. (White) leaving them land and money. Endorsed Gordonsville Va Sept 22d 1865 Resp'y referred to Capt C. L. Strows Asst Supt Hanover. Co. Va. who will examine the facts of this case, and report what action, if any, is necessary to secure the property to the complainants; and forward report with this paper, to this office. (Sgd) T.
